The foundation of traditional Chinese Medicine.  Patients will be asked to lie down either face up or face down depending on where the needles will be inserted. Our acupuncturists use single-use disposable needles, which are thrown away in a medical sharps container immediately after it has been pulled out. As each needle is inserted the patient will feel a slight prick and once the needle reached the right acupuncture point the patient will notice a dull heavy sensation. Sometimes the needles are stimulated with an electro-stimulator after insertion to heighten the bio-energy or Qi effect. The patient will lay with the needles remaining for about twenty minutes while relaxing to a therapeutic music. Acupuncture generally involves weekly to biweekly treatments. The number of weeks varies greatly depending on the severity of the symptoms usually ranging from 4 to 30 weeks.

CUPPING THERAPY image-acupuncture-cupping-01

An ancient Chinese form of alternative medicine in which a local suction is created on the skin; cupping mobilizes blood flow in order to promote healing. Suction is created using heat (fire) or mechanical devices (hand or electrical pumps) and placed on affected area of the body. Cupping is a method of creating a vacuum on the patient’s skin to dispel stagnation of stagnant blood and lymph, thereby improving qi flow and blood circulation— Used mainly to treat digestive problems as well as respiratory diseases such as the common cold, pneumonia and bronchitis. Cupping is used on the back, the neck, the shoulders and other musculoskeletal areas. There are 3 different types of cupping therapies. Dry Cupping, Wet Cupping, and Massage Cupping.

The burning of the herb mugwort to add heat to affected areas of the body. At Balance and Harmony we use Moxa rolls placed an inch from the skin for short periods to stimulate a targeted muscle or acupuncture point. Moxa is used in combination with acupuncture or as a treatment of it’s own to help treat symptoms associated with digestion, women’s health, breech pregnancies, cold/ flu, and joint pain responding well with heat. This herb produces a slightly spicy smell that can often be found in acupuncture clinics.

Translates to pinch and pull.  More commonly known as acupressure, this massage technique is a way to stimulate certain acupuncture points without needles. Tui Na is unlike other massages in that it is not used for relaxation but for specific therapeutic pain relief of the back, shoulder, head and gastric systems.  Tui Na can be used for younger children or adults where using needles may be impractical.

Far Infrared therapy (FIR) involves the use of Far Infrared rays to gently heal, soothe, stimulate and detox the physical body, as well as the mind. Far Infrared Rays are invisible waves of energy that have the ability to penetrate all layers of the human physical body, penetrating into the innermost regions of the tissues, muscles and bone.

An ancient technique, Far Infrared Therapy uses these waves, or rays, of energy to slightly elevate the surface temperature of the body. When we slightly induce a very small temperature increase, we can enhance our body’s functioning on multiple levels. Our hands, bodies and the sun emit FIR energy at all times. In Ancient China, palm healing was used to pass these infrared rays from one person to another.

Scar Tissue forms in the body as a temporary patching mechanism for wounds caused by surgery, trauma or repetitive stress.  This scar tissue is made from collagen just like our skin but without blood supply it dies, dries out, constricts and becomes brittle.   Scar tissue fastened to tissues not normally connected, is called an adhesion.  Adhesions can spread, entrapping nerves, causing pain and numbness or limiting range of motion.  Undiagnosed pain and restricted mobility are likely to be caused by these adhesions.    Scar Tissue Therapy ™ is focused on relief of soft tissue problems caused by scar tissue adhesions.  The shearing force of planar wave energy passes safely through flexible healthy tissue, but readily absorbed by the brittle, dense scar tissue.

Has determined the optimum frequency that resonates with the scar tissue for maximum effectiveness by using high speed video shot at 2000  frames/second.  With only a 2mm stroke, this therapy is feels good and is completely safe.  We believe that Scar Tissue Therapy is the most effective way to treat painful scar tissue.  Scar Tissue Therapy is fast, painless and lasting.
